Albert was born on the homestead in Pine Lake Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, on 23 March, 1895. Along with most of his siblings he went to farm wheat near Fenwood Village, Saskatchewan, Ca>
nada, with his parents in the spring of 1903.
Albert was in the Canadian Army during WWI and was sent to England. A neighbor in Fenwood, Edith Sissen Carter, told him about her sister who worked in Victoria Station, in London, England and whil>
e in England he looked the sister up and introduced himself to Louisa Eliza Sissen. He married "Lou" on 26 November, 1918 in Manningtree, Essex, England.
Albert was a "teamster" while in the army, and was attached to the motor pool and drove the "new fangled" trucks. His unit's duties seemed to consist mostly of "public service" type projects in >
England. He didn't have to go to the continent.
He and Louisa returned to Canada on the vessel "Tunisian" which sailed from Liverpool, England on 14 August, 1919, the summer after the war ended. They traveled third class. Louisa was very pregn>
ant during the trip and gave birth to their first child, Stanley, not long after they arrived in Fenwood, Saskatchewan.
Their second child, Winona, was born in Melville on 12 February, 1921.
Less than three months after Winnie was born, Albert joined the exodus to southern California and he and Louisa arrived in East Port, Idaho, on 4 May, 1921, by train. They eventually settled in To>
rrance, California.
Albert & Lou had four Children, Stanley, Winona "Winnie", Gene and Shirley.
Albert worked as a longshoreman on the San Pedro waterfront.
Mom says Uncle Albert and Grandma (Daisy Ellen England) went together before she decided to marry Hugo Benjestorf [probably just freinds]. They apparently remained close friends because both Elno>
ra & Roger Osborn (Daisy’s children by her 2nd husband) remember him & Lou visiting them often, presumably while Grandma was living in Rialto, California. Elnora recalls Lu being a very nice lady wit>
h a British accent who had some sort of seizures (epilepsy?).
Albert died on 6 February, 1984 at 4:50 PM at Bird Haven Convalescent Hospital in Bellflower, California. Cause of death was cardiac arrest complicated by arteriosclerosis. He was buried on>
10 February in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles, California.

William married Marry Hodder on 19 February, 1833, in Chideock.
Sometime in 1855 the house that William was renting from Stephen Hodder burnt down [Seahill Cottage on Canberry Lane].

According to Elsie's letter, her mother married Herman Jaacks on 25 March, 1919. However, the 1920 census shows Luisa Benjestorf still a widow living with her daughter Helen and son, Robert. It seems likely that they married in March, 1920.

[1880 Census of Walton, Delaware, New York, USA]

In the 1880 Census Thomas williams, a Mulato Barber, was living with his wife, Saphrona, who was also a Mulato and was 22 years old, born in New York.
Their 6 month old daughter, Nellie Williams also lived with them.
It seems not only possible, but likely that Saphrona was Fanny Dyer Walker's daughter, Saphrona Walker.

[email from Cathleen McLachlan 2 April 2015]

Hi.
Thank you for the family tree. A couple of things I noticed. Jim's dad David McLachlan's middle name was Donald. His mom Arlene was born 11/4/1914. We don't know where Goldie was in 1910 but it is likely she may have been working somewhere as there were quite a few children in the family. Goldie died 1/1/1977. Arlene died 3/29/2006. Jeremiah Cleaver's wife Harriet was listed as Hayden in one place and Hayton in another. It confused me for a while. Robert Bartlett was born 4/26/1937 and Sarah (Harrington)Bartlett was born 4/30/1938. I am still amazed by all this and had no idea that Jim and I are actually distantly related!

[info from Vickie Decker email 21 Oct 2010]

"My name is Vickie. I have been researching the Drock/Derock geneology since last March. I am doing this for my brother Steve. We were both adopted (he from NY and I from Montreal). In locating his birthfamily, I seem to have tapped into the Drock family tree. His Mom, now deceased, Margaret Derock was from the St Regis Reservation in northern NY. She married Charles Seymour, also a Mohawk.

Margaret is said to be the daughter of Wallace Lester Derock and Lillian Faatz of NY. Wallace is the son of James Manley Derock, the son of Reuben Derock (Droek), the son of James Peter Drock, the son of Simon Drock, the son of Guy. Whew!

I hope to solidify the Native American connection. My biggest block, thus far, is that the US Census are only released through 1930. She was born in 1931. She seems to have grown up on the Reservation but I can't link Wallace to that area so far. I wonder if she was a relative who came to live with Wallace as a daughter .... puzzling.

At any rate, I am writing to ask if you have uncovered any Native connections since the writings of the Drock Stories and Drock Descendants.

I appreciate any help you might offer.

Thanks!

Vickie Decker
