    1-4. The Franklin's
    ~1800 - near Roxbury, Connecticut:

My great-great grandfather, Charles Franklin, was born in Roxbury, in the western part of Connecticut, probably around 1805 plus or minus ten years. In the mid or late 1830ís Charles met and married a widow, Susan Drock~Churchill [or Chirkin]. They probably met near Walton, Delaware County, New York. Their first child, Henry Franklin, was probably born in or near Walton. They later moved to Allegany County, New York. The family may have lived in Caneadea for a while, but finally settled near South Bolivar, Bolivar Township, Allegany County, New York. They probably lived on the Pennsylvania side of the state line while in South Bolivar.

Charles Franklin seems to have died late in 1849 or during the first half of 1850, within five or six years after the birth of their youngest son in 1844. Charles and Susan had four children, all sons: Henry, Charles, Reuben Benjamin, and Jeremiah Buel.

  • Notes

    • [Deposition of Della Louisa Franklin, 25 APR, 1921 as modified by information from Daryl Holmes and the 1850 US Census and 1855 NY census; 1820 US Census; other censuses].

Susan was the eldest child of James Peter Drock and Esther Buel (or Buell). She was born in Goshen, Cheshire, New Hampshire, in 1806 +/-1. An analysis of the 1820 Census for Walton, Delaware, New York, shows that Susan was born after the date of the 1820 census in 1805 and before the date of the 1820 census in 1806.
Charles Franklin was Susan's 2nd husband. Her first was Jeremiah Churchill (or Chirken/Churkin?), and he was the father of Mary C. Churchill and Esther Churchill, Reuben B. Franklin's half sisters. Della
also stated that Susan had two other daughters by Churchill, but there is no doccumentary evidence that this was so.
Susan had 4 sons by Charles Franklin.
Susan married Charles Thompson after her marriage to Charles Franklin, presumably after his death which probably occured when Reuben was less than 10 years old. There were no children by Charles >
      Thompson.
Susan died ca. 1883 and is buried in Allentown Cemetery, Alma, Allegany, NY.

    • [Grave stone in Allentown Cemetery, Allentown, Allegany, New York, USA]

According to her grave marker, Susan was born in 1806 and died in 1883.
