    • "Uncle Bill" became a newspaper writer and wrote a weekly (?) column for the ENUMCLAW COURRIER under the pseudonym "Billy Robbins". This was also the ring name he used as a proffessional boxer.
Uncle Bill worked for a number of newspapers in Washington, Oregon & California including the Portland (Oregon) News, the Enumclaw (Washington) Courrier, The Condon (Oregon) Globe-Times. He was th>
e news editor for the Madras (Oregon) Pioneer weekly, and the editor of the Inyo Independent and Owens Valley Progress-Citizen in eastern California.
"Uncle Bill" never married. Family tradition has it that he nearly married once, to an aspiring vocalist from Enumclaw, Washington, named Corrine Fountaine, but since his father had "taken off" an>
d left him the sole supporter of his mother and two sisters, Sally (Lillian) and Alice, and youngest brother, Bob, he felt it would be unfair to her career ambitions to tie her to him.
Uncle Bill went through Army Basic Training in Mississippi, but received a medical discharge.
In his later years "Uncle Bill" exhibited symptoms of Alzheimers Disease and was cared for by various siblings in their homes. He died from complications of the disease in Grants Pass, Oregon.
