  • Notes

    • [from Lucille Benjestorf; Joan Benjestorf; Roger Osborn: Elnora Osborn; Ken Burges; 1930 US Census] [St. Andrews Church Parish Records] [British Birth Certificate] [Death Certificate].

Information from the LDS Pedigree chart constructed by Kenny Burgess indicates Daisy was born 16 March 1898. The St. Andrews Parish baptismal records and the GRO Birth Registration show she was b>
orn on 3 June, 1898, at the Brick Layers' Arms at Banstead, Surrey. She was baptized in Kingswood, Surrey, on 4 September, 1898. Her father's occupation was "Licensed Victualer" [a pub operater].
Daisy was born in the living quarters above the Bricklayers Arms pub that her father operated in Tadworth, Banstead, Surrey, England. When her father went to Canada to get a homestead she and her siblings were divided into 2 sets, one stayed with her fathers's parents, the other with her mother's parents [according to Jeanette Benjestorf. Lucille Benjestorf and Elnora Osborn both think the whole family moved to Canada at the same time].
According Roger Osborn, his mother told him that the "Self-Help Emigration Society", a branch of the Salvation Army, had provided their transportation to Canada as part of its program to transport "deserving poor" people to British overseas colonies and teritories. The program transported 150,000 poor British citizens to Canada between 1884 and 1914.
Daisy's father finally sent for her and her siblings when she was about 8 years old (31 August, 1906 via the CP Lines SS Lake Champlain from Liverpool to Quebec then Special Immigrant Train on CPRR).
Heinrich & Matilda Benjestorf had a wheat farm near her father's farm, and that's how she came to meet Albert Benjestorf and his brothers. She and Albert were good freinds but she married his brother, Hugo Benjestorf ( her sister, Kathleen May, married Edward Benjestorf).
After trying wheat farming for several years with many crops destroyed by hail storms, they moved to Colton, California, USA, ca 1923.
By the time of the 1930 census Daisy & Hugo had seperated and they eventually divorced sometime before June 1936. Daisy raised two of her daughters (Lucille & Virginia) as a single mother during the Great Depression while Hugo raised the other two (Joan & Evelyn). [She may have raised all four until after her daughters, Lucille and Virginia, married].
According to Lucille Benjestorf, Daisy met Ralph Osborn when he was doing some carpentry work for Daisy's employer in Colton. Daisy may have obtained a divorce in San Bernardino, California, or she and Ralph may have moved to Reno/Sparks, Nevada, so she could get a divorce.
She married Ralph Osborn on 1 June,1936, in Carson City, Nevada, and had 4 children by him after her other daughters were grown.
The Burgess Pedigree chart shows 6 Jun 1977 as the day Daisy died. This date is also shown in the California Death Index.
Her death certificate confirms she died on 6 June, 1977, at 01:55 at the Loma Linda Community Hospital in Loma Linda, California.
Daisy is buried in the Rialto Park Cemetery in Rialto, California, near her second husband, Ralph Osborn.
