  • Histories
    3-6. The Judson’s and The Osborn’s
    3-6. The Judson’s and The Osborn’s
    ~1805 - Connecticut, USA:

Cornelius Judson was born in Connecticut around 1805, possibly in Fairfield County where there was a concentration of several Judson families in the early eighteen hundreds. Before he was two years old Cornelius’ parents moved to New York State, probably to Chenango County in south-eastern New York where six Judson families lived in 1820, including Phylo Judson, an uncommon name that showed up a couple of times later in Cornelius’ family.

By 1830 Cornelius had married and was living in Wysox in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, which is located about fifty miles southwest of Binghamton, New York. Cornelius became caught up in the westward expansion that spread Americans of European ancestry across the continent.

    • [US Census; Verbal from Roger Osborn; Ralph Osborn Death Certificate]
      [Payne/Mason Family Tree]

Frank Osborn was born in Indiana in November, 1844.
In August, 1850, Frank and his parents and siblings lived on a farm in Jackson Township, Fountain, Indiana. Frank was 6 years old and this was the first time he had been counted in a US Census.
In July, 1860, Frank lived with his parents and siblings on their farm in Morgan Township, Franklin, Iowa.
Frank is said to have enlisted in the Indiana Militia during the Civil War and is supposed to have been a bugler while in the army.
After the end of the War, Frank may have drifted around the midwest for a few years, but around 1867 he married Lydia Elvia COLLINS, a young lady from Illinois [where he may have been at the time]. By 1870 Frank and Lydia had settled in Omadi, Dakota,Nebraska, which is just across the State Line from Sioux City, Iowa..
At the time of the 1880 US Census, Frank lived in Rock Township, Woodbury, Iowa, just to the east of Sioux City. He was a farmer and lived with his wife, Lydia, and their six children. According to the Payne/Mason Family Tree on Ancestry.com, Lydia died on 18 December 1907. If this is true, she and Frank must have divorced sometime around
Frank married an unidentified second wife between 1880 and 1900, probably after 1883. Frank's second wife died before 1889 [or they divorced].
In June, 1900, Frank lived in Randolph, Nebraska with his newly acquired third wife, Cora Judson~Dennis. Cora had also been married before. All three of her surviving children lived with them as well as Franks son, Delbert Osborn. Frank was then working as a carpenter, but had been unemployed for 6 of the previous 12 months.
In April, 1910, Frank & Cora lived in Randolph City, Cedar, Nebraska, where Frank worked as a carpenter. They owned their home free of any mortgage. Their son Ralph M. Osborn was 9 years old and attended school. None of the older children lived with them.
By January, 1920, the Osborn's had moved to Littleton, Arapahoe, Colorado, where Frank worked as a carpenter and Ralph attended school.
I could find no trace of Frank, or Ralph Osborn in the 1930 census. Frank must have died by then because Cora was married to her third husband, H. C. Martin and still living in Littleton, Colorado.

Frank occasionaly spelled his surname "Osborne". He was 56 years old when his son, Ralph was born. He has been reported to have been a bugler in the Army during the Civil War. His surname appears as "OSBURN" in the 1870 Census.

      to me
Thank you for your research! From notes, I can add: Richard Osborn's wife Sarah was born 1773 in NC, died 1850.

I have Franklin Osborn born Nov 1843 in Rush?, Indiana and died 6 March 1921 in Littleton, Arapahoe, CO

I have more on the Guilliams family, but appreciate your confirmation on census records.

I will try to spend some time tomorrow afternoon on all this; with our beautiful weather (finally!), bike riding is a priority. :)

I will mail the two document copies I have.
      Happy hunting, Louise
